Crusades

The crusades were military campaigns that were made to capture the holy city of Jerusalem witch was captured by the Muslims they were first ordered by pope urban the second who was from Europe he felt that Jerusalem was a Catholic city and belonged to the Christians witch name it "the city of God" the Muslims did not want to give up Jerusalem because there leader Muhammad went there and it also has the dome of the rock. the people in the crusades were knights and other warriors the symbol of the crusades was a red cross there were nine crusades totall in history pope urban declared war on the Muslims in 1095 by saying "Christians, hasten to help your brothers in the East, for they are being attacked. Arm for the rescue of Jerusalem under your captain Christ. Wear his cross as your badge. If you are killed your sins will be pardoned." many crusaders were also just volunteer's who just wanted to be true Christians the crusades did take Jerusalem  put they never managed to hold it for very long. One of the other most impotent things about the crusades is that they brought back knowledge from the middle east that helped bring Europe out of the dark ages and they also conquered Constantinople.
